BLOOMFIELD'S Southern Hospitlit There's a special brand of friendli- ness found in the South: Even if Bloomfield CEO and Georgia native Brooke Sinclair's slight ac- cent didn't give her away, I'd have pegged her for a Southerner solely because of her genteel kindness. "I've been out here now for ten years and my accent doesn't go away," Sinclair said. "It just gets thicker with a glass of wine." Sinclair and her husband Pete own Bloomfield, a high-end, sun-grown, and organic cannabis company that sells flowers and CO2 extractions. The aesthetic of the brand, particularly its Bloom- field Vape Kits, skews slightly feminine—although I'd be more inclined to describe it simply as "sophisticated"—and the products look as if you'd find them in the ac- cessories department at Blooming- dales. (No pun intended, but come to think of it, that would be great cross-promotion opportunity . . .) The solventless cannabis oil comes directly from Bloomfield's cannabis flower; Brooke said it's in the process of being branded as "'EHO,' or Essential Hash Oil, as all of the terpenes that were there in the first place are still there." "We're launching our pre-roll line in the spring and right now we've got some really cool strains," she continued. "The Khaleesi's Dragon [a sativa-dominant hybrid] is a big one. We love her." The Sinclairs' farm is located in Grass Valley in Nevada County, California, where Brooke is passionately involved in helping shape local laws. Inspired by the county's now-repealed ban on outdoor cannabis cultivation, Brooke worked with other local growers to overturn it, although replacement legislation is still a work in progress. As politically involved as she is, Brooke is a farmer first. "Bloomfield is a little over a year old, but my husband and I have been farming for several years," she said. "We're self- funded and focused on boutique, organic cannabis and being as sustainable as possible. Bloomfield was created as a co-op model to help our close-knit family of farmers in the area." "Currently, events are one of the best platforms for direct connections and education, where the 2018 state regulations do not yet sup- port them. We must ask everyone to fight to sup- port small businesses and the community that this culture was founded on," she said. "Together with the California Growers Association, we have created a committee to work with the state on improving the regulations in regard to events and tourism, which will build community, bring revenue to businesses and give customers more of a say on how they would like to experience cannabis." I strolled into the VIP tent for a CBD (a canna- bis compound that lacks the psychoactive effects of THC) mocktail created by Chef Holden Jagger of Altered Plates. Refreshed and refocused, I met up with my colleagues to tackle the rest of what the Exchange had to offer. Here are the three standouts that struck a Chartreuse-tinged chord with the experts at The Clever Root. For more information, visit emeraldexchangeca.com.
