Our three- year-old EHS Building is now an award-winning structure, breathtaking in design, created for sustainability and filled with symbolism. Please come and see our hallways that are constructed from slate, the surface used for teaching generations past. Our college is uniquely designed to prepare students to meet the needs of a global workplace. In addition to classes on campus, faculty members teach at many extension centers in Michigan and also in Georgia and Virginia. Our study abroad adventures reach Australia, China, Dominican Republic, England, France, Ghana, Guatemala, Ireland, Italy and Mexico. We create leaders in many fields. The Department of Educational Leadership offers a full range of programs to prepare individuals for roles as educational leaders in schools, communities and institutions of higher education. More than 600 students choose to minor in our Leadership Program. As I hike through our state parks and recreation areas, I meet and greet many graduates of our Department of Recreation, Parks and Leisure Services Administration. EHS offers one of the largest teacher education programs in the state serving both traditional and charter schools. Since 1892 CMU has been a leader in preparing teachers for roles as teachers, school team members, community leaders and education advocates. The Department of Human Environmental Studies offers programs that prepare students for careers that enhance the quality of life. These span early childhood to late life, from the foods we eat to the clothes we wear, from the environments we live in to the families that nurture us. I served as the resident nurse in a special education school and later as a school counselor and child therapist. I am very supportive of our Counseling and Special Education Department; we prepare students for careers in counseling and in working with persons with special needs. I'm always excited to meet with graduates and discover how your learning experiences here at CMU have benefited your life experiences.
