The welcome gala is not coy about its goal. The 2017 edition was themed "Glam- our Night," and the parade of celebrations and performances, complete with dra- matic music and lighting, helped it live up to its lofty billing. Awards were given, headlined by John Warren being honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award; art work was auc- tioned off for charity; a fashion show fea- tured traditional dress; everyone from sponsors to the participating owners, trainers, and jockeys was celebrated; and a new Yitai desert song title "Heroes Are Flying" debuted to the 250 strong crowd. The function now draws some of the most well-known names in racing, as evidenced by Warren's award. Representatives from the likes of the Australian Turf Club, New Zealand Bloodstock, Goffs, Tattersalls, In- glis, Magic Millions, Ocala Breeders' Sales Company, Keeneland, and WinStar Farm all also made the journey to Inner Mongo- lia, which demonstrates what Teo is trying to achieve. "There was a time when people doubt- ed China, when they doubted that China would become a racing center," said Eden Harrington, the vice president of the Chi- na Horse Club. "There was a time when they didn't believe. But then again, there was a time when televisions were only in black and white, and mobile phones only allowed you to make phone calls."
