Broome Once a sleepy outback town, Broome still retains its unique character from its early pearling days. A compact town to explore, attractions are never more than a 15 minute drive away. Chinatown is easily navigated by foot and there is also a local bus and taxi service. Eat & Drink • Watch the sky light up as the sun sets beyond the horizon, look out across the Indian Ocean at Cable Beach, sunset drink in hand. • Enjoy delicious fare from the food vans and pick up a locally made souvenir from the Courthouse Markets on a Saturday morning. Also open on Sundays during peak season. • Try the much sought-after local delicacy pearl meat on a tour or in some restaurants. • From fine dining to casual cafes, there is a good selection of dining experiences on offer in Chinatown, the Cable Beach precinct and around Town Beach. • Sample award winning beers including an alcoholic ginger beer and chilli beer and soak up the atmosphere of a microbrewery housed in a building more than a century old. Shop • Wander through the town's centre to find the perfect gift or unique memorabilia from your trip to Broome. Once considered the pearling capital of the world, fall in love with an Australian South Sea Pearl found in the pearl showrooms located along Dampier Terrace and Short Street. • Purchase artwork or an image at one of the town's galleries. The turquoise water and the intensely coloured red earth of the Kimberley continue to inspire local artists. Explore • Enjoy a swim, stroll, a camel ride or just take in the glowing sunsets at Cable Beach. With 22kms of beach to explore, there is plenty of space to appreciate its beauty even during peak periods. • Visit Gantheaume Point. Learn about Broome's wildlife, dinosaur footprints, pioneers and Aboriginal connection through interpretive signage. Walk the short track to the red cliffs and be amazed at the spectacular coastal vistas. Cable Beach. Streeters Jetty. 50 | www.australiasnorthwest.com
