to the second issue of the USA
Hockey Parents' Community
digital magazine. By now your
child has probably been out
on the ice for a month or two,
while you're sitting in the stands
watching the controlled chaos.
There are likely six or more adults on the ice helping administer the practice.
Have you every wondered what makes them qualified to be on the ice or if
what they are instructing your child is what is best for his or her development?
USA Hockey has an extensive Coaching Education Program, one that is widely
emulated not only in North America, but across the world. As a matter of fact,
the United States Olympic Committee has lauded USA Hockey's Coaching
Education Program as the gold standard. It provides resources to coaches to help
ensure they have the knowledge and tools necessary to help your child achieve
his or her full potential. Coaches are required to participate in a comprehensive
educational program, which includes both classroom time and the completion of
online, age-specific modules. In addition, all coaches are required to be screened
as part of USA Hockey's comprehensive SafeSport program.
Read "What it takes to be a USA Hockey Coach" later in this issue for more
detailed information about the USA Hockey Coaching Education Program.
