The medical assistant, also a liaison between the doctor and patient, is of vital importance to the success of the medical practice. Employment is found in physician offices, clinics, and other healthcare settings. Upon completion of the program, students are eligible to register and sit for a national certification test. Program Notes: Externship hours are site specific and may require attendance any day of the week, including during unscheduled days and times. A medical biller and coder is someone who can work independently, is detail oriented, can interpret reimbursement guidelines and regulations, and has good computer skills. These professionals assign specific codes for diagnosis and procedures performed on a patient and documented in the patient's health record. They code symptoms, diseases, operations, and treatments according to national classification systems. Upon completion of the coding classes, students are eligible to register and sit for the national Certified Professional Coder (CPC) exam through the AAPC. Program Notes:
