Emphasis on methods of archaeological fieldwork and what these discoveries reveal about humanity, including the nature of archaeological inquiry, the development of human social groups, the changing role of religion in evolving societies, the origins of agriculture, the origins of settled life ways, the rise of cities and complex societies, political strife across different cultures and the forces which tend to fragment societies. Examples drawn from Africa, Asia, Europe, the Pacific Islands, and Australia. Prerequisites: None. ASB253 3 Credits 3 Periods Death and Dying Across Cultures Responses to death and dying in cultures around the world. Explanations for particular cultural responses to death and dying. Examples drawn from ancient and contemporary cultures Prerequisites: None. ASM104 4 Credits 5 Periods Bones, Stones, and Human Evolution Study of human evolution and variation; including fossil hominids and their tools, primate anatomy and behavior, human genetics, and the environment and human biology. Emphasis on composition and facility in objective and expressive representation, using variety of drawing media. Prerequisites: None. ART115 Lec + Lab 3 Credits 6 Periods Three-Dimensional Design Fundamental principles of three-dimensional design. Prerequisites: None. ART122 Lec + Lab 3 Credits 6 Periods Drawing and Composition II Emphasis on composition and exploration of drawing media. Prerequisites: A grade of C or better in ART111.
