Check out the latest animal happens at your zoos. + 1 + 1 = + 6 HELLO my name is M enelik Menelik the oryx was born in early June and is doing well with the herd at Werribee Open Range Zoo. Sadly we said goodbye to Bill the Zebra at Werribee Open Range Zoo recently. He was 28 years old and an amazing character who will be missed by all. Melbourne Zoo celebrated its first Spider Monkey birth in seven years! Mum Isobella gave birth to a baby girl in mid- June and has taken well to motherhood. Siamang pair Sampit and Isidor recently welcomed a baby girl, completing a winter baby boom at Melbourne Zoo! The newly renovated Reptile House at Healesville Sanctuary has just opened and brings some new residents with it. Make sure you pop in this spring to see the renovations and say hello to all our new scaly friends including; Inland Bearded Dragons, Merten's Water Monitors and Gidgee Skinks. Six Nyala from Wellington Zoo (two males and four females) are now on display at Werribee Open Range Zoo after arriving to the collection in June. We're hoping we might see some potential pairings between our Plains-wanderers at the breeding facility at Werribee Open Range Zoo over the next few months with encouraging signs shown by the birds so far. Another male Baboon born at Melbourne Zoo making six new babies in the troupe since May 2015. Melbourne Zoo welcomed a number of Giant Rainforest Mantis who recently emerged from the ootheca. Helmeted Honeyeater breeding season has begun! The Helmeted Honeyeaters at Healesville Sanctuary have been paired and already keepers are seeing some nest building and egg laying – an exciting beginning to what we hope is another great breeding season.
