Larry Green spent much of his childhood living in rental or public housing. As he reflects on that time, he's thrilled that today he can offer rental properties that are safe and comfortable and feel like home. Larry and his wife, Terry, started Green's Property Investments and Management in 2012 as a way to keep busy during retirement. Surprisingly, their business has become so much more than a pastime. "We fix up these forgotten properties such that we would want to live in them ourselves, taking care in how we fix and finish them with important details," said Terry. "†ere aren't a lot of affordable, clean and comfortable houses available in the Huntsville area, and we are looking to change that, one house at a time." A friend introduced them to the process of rehabilitating and renting houses. Larry researched the industry and the local market, and the couple bought their first property. Today, they own seven properties. Along the way, they have gleaned information and tips from various resources: seminars, television shows and other investors. †ey recommend learning the difference between buying houses to hold and rent and buying houses to sell or "flip." Redstone Federal Credit Union has also been an invaluable resource for them. †ey were already impressed with the service on their existing personal accounts. †e competitive business loan rates led them to choose Redstone as their business banker. "We love the way everyone at Redstone is so accommodating," said Larry. "†ey have helped us learn the process, recommended various vendors and are readily available to answer our questions as we've grown." †e Greens have seen how a safe and comfortable home can be the foundation for a family's growth. In fact, one of their first renters, a single mother with three children, was able to go from public assistance to saving enough to buy her own home. "Even though we lost a great tenant, we are so proud of her for continuing to succeed in life," said Terry. "Now we look for ways to encourage our tenants and their families to grow in all sorts of ways. We encourage the children when we see them to get good grades and even earn a few dollars by picking up tree debris around the house. We truly want our houses to be a place for our tenants to feel safe and settled," she said. r e d f c u.o r g | 3 S M A L L B U S I N E S S S P O T L I G H T Larry Green spent much of his Investing in Families GREEN'S PROPERTY INVESTMENTS AND MANAGEMENT: A business share account must be opened in the business name in order to obtain a loan.
