female steamboat captain in the country in 1884. The evening side, meanwhile, is home to Bob's Steak & Chop House, which is ex- actly what you think it is; the Library Bar, which features wine and locally inspired cocktails served in a cozy setting; and Pin + Proof, a speakeasy with vintage cocktails and bowling. Pin + Proof is further, well, proof of the Omni's desire to pay homage to Louisville. When the hotel's sign for Falls City Theatre Equipment Company is on, it is the cue let- ting guests know that the speakeasy is open. The hotel restored the neon sign to preserve history, as the Falls City Theatre Equipment Co. used to be located on the site. Heading toward the guest elevators— which must be activated by a hotel room key—it is impossible to miss the perma- nent art gallery featuring Kentucky artists as well as a replica of the sign that was on the original Louisville Water Company building. The rooms themselves are richly ap- pointed, featuring luxury standards like quality bedding and rainfall shower heads, but they also contain tributes to the com- munity. Touches like pull tabs on the draw- ers featuring the year 1778 (which is when Louisville was settled) and a private bour- bon bar (which takes the concept of a ho- tel minibar to the next level) constantly remind you of where you are.
