VOLUME 42 I NUMBER 4 I APRIL 2018 VOLUME 42 I NUMBER 11 I NOVEMBER 2018 Baker & Baker Jewelers Celebrates 100 Years It's not always good to live in the past, but it sure can be fun to look back and see how we got to where we are today. So, for the sake of reference, let's drift back to the year 1918. Marietta had been established 130 years ago, World War 1 was com- ing to an end and a trip to the corner grocery store would find a quart of milk for 9 cents and a gallon of gasoline for 25 cents. A lot has changed over the years around the world and in our fair city, but one noteworthy thing for over 100 years has been the sparkling presence of Baker and Baker Jewelers. Established first on Front Street and now on Putnam near Front, this "jewel" of Marietta prides itself on customer ser- vice, quality diamonds and jewelry. Baker and Baker opened its doors in 1918 to the Mid-Ohio Valley as a full service jewelry store, has grown within the community from a small store to a multiple brand jewelry store, and has become a staple in our historic downtown. In 1994, Certified Gemologist Appraiser, Larry Hall, was honored to purchase this historic business from the Baker family. Hall recalls Norman Baker, his mentor, saying, "Just keep doing what got us here and you can keep our name above the door, and it must stay in your family." It seemed appropriate and prudent that after having been a partner in the business for twenty years to step up and set the course for the next 100. With his wife Nancy and daughter Charla they have created an extraordinary experience for the shopper looking to buy that perfect piece of jewelry for a special occa- sion, engagement, or anniversary. There is no better time than today to visit Baker and Baker, so you too can enjoy the unique expe- rience of creating an heirloom for your loved one or for yourself. If you're out and about this weekend, perhaps heading to the grocery store for bread and milk; make it a point to stop at 105 Putnam Street at the low- er end of Putnam near Front. Save the date for Baker and Baker's 100 th year anniver- sary celebration which began on Monday, October 29 with an antique sale event for one day only which will feature mil- lions of dollars of antique jewelry. The anniversary event continues Wednesday, October 31 through Saturday, Novem- ber 3 with daily giveaways and savings throughout. Novem- ber 1-3, the celebration will also include a dazzling Hearts On Fire trunk show showcasing one of a kind pieces. Happy anniversary, Baker and Baker Jewelers. We are proud of your accomplishments, appreciate your support, and can't wait to see what's in store for your next 100 years.
