On behalf of the Board of Park Commissioners, I thank everyone who recently completed the District's survey. Your opinion is important to us! The survey confi rmed that most residents want a pool facility at Harrer Park, but many people have concerns about the costs of a new pool and/or facility. Our next step will be to establish a citizen task force who will use the information from the survey as well as additional input from the community to determine how we can best balance these interests. Many of you are wondering if Harrer Pool will reopen. Simply put, we are committed to opening the pool this coming Spring unless the pool's condition has deteriorated to the point where it is not feasible to repair and maintain it. From the survey, we learned many residents do not realize the Park District is a separate unit of government from the Village. Although we work closely with the Village, we are governed by an independently elected fi ve-member board. The survey also revealed most people do not realize the Park District only receives only 4.4% of your property taxes. A detailed video presentation of the survey results can be found on our website at mortongroveparks.com, under "About Us" in the "Meeting and Agendas" section for the September 20, 2018 Board of Commissioners meeting. The Park District's mission has been to enrich the quality of community life and promote recreational activities through creative programming for people of all ages and abilities, while protecting open space and natural resources for future generations. We take that mission seriously and never forget that we serve you, our residents. Everyone at the Morton Grove Park District wishes you a wonderful holiday season and a healthy and happy new year! Steve Schmidt Board President
