Interface. He received an MS in chem- istry from Marquette University, Milwaukee, Wis., and a doctorate in chemistry and chemical engineering f r o m M i c h i g a n T e c h n o l o g i c a l University, Houghton, Mich. He has also done postdoctoral work in macro- molecular science at Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland. Urban has written more than 300 research papers, several patents, and three books, and has edited nine books. He has won numerous awards, including the Technical Focus Speaker and Roon Foundation Awards (1999) from the Federation of Societies for Coatings Technologies (FSCT), and an outstand- ing research faculty award from USM. His research on self-healing coatings has been featured by numerous media including the New York Times, Forbes magazine, BBC, NBC, Discovery Channel, USA Today, Yahoo, and many other TV and radio stations around the world. Current research interests include self-healing polymers and coatings, understanding physi- co-chemical processes governing coatings responsiveness, the development of het- erogeneous stimuli-responsive polymeric coatings, and molecular level processes that govern self-repaired coatings. Ying Yang is a research assistant professor in P r o f . M a r e k W . U r b a n ' s g r o u p a t Clemson University. She joined the Urban Research Group in 2011 and received a Ph.D. degree in Materials Science and Engineering in 2016. She is a co-author of several high impact pub- lications and patents, and her research focuses on the design and development of advanced stimuli-responsive poly- mers and coatings, including self-heal- ing and shape memory polymers, and multi-phase composite systems.
