The next morning we did a bit of exploring
before getting ready for the main event—our
mule ride around the rim. While it is possible
to ride into the canyon, those excursions book
up at least a year in advance, so we settled for
the slightly more sedate alternative.
The Canyon Vistas Mule Ride is a relatively
new offering, and for the first time in more
than a century, it means visitors can ride
along the East Rim. It's a four-mile, two-hour
trek that offers spectacular views and a bit
of history.
