I was paired with Lil Jed, Danielle partnered
with Reba, and Kelsey was assigned B.B., and
they were all faithful companions as we made
our way around the trails. I would like to say I
was Lil Jed's coolest visitor, but apparently in
2016, he was the trusted mount of none oth-
er than Oprah Winfrey. The mules truly are an
iconic part of the Grand Canyon experience.
In addition to learning about the Grand
Canyon, the excursion is filled with informa-
tion about the mules themselves: where they
come from (Tennessee), how long they train
for the job (years), how much vacation they
get (plenty), how many visitors they've killed
(zero). The last stat is reassuring as you look
