Defensive Coordinator | 11th Season | Alma Mater: Michigan, 1969
Mike Hankwitz is in his 11th season with
the Wildcats and his 30th season overall
as a defensive coordinator. In his 29-
plus years as a defensive coordinator,
his defense has ranked in the top-25 on
14 occassions. As coordinator, his teams
have 41 wins over ranked programs,
including eight over top-five and two wins
over No. 1-ranked teams. He has amassed
389 wins as a college assistant coach and
coordinator. He most recently guided a
Wildcats defense that allowed just 17.1
points per game during conference play
en route to claiming their first-ever Big
Ten West Division title.

Associate Head Coach (Defensive Backs) | 13th Season | Alma Mater: DePauw, 1999
After 12 years as an assistant coach lead-
ing three of the top four running backs in
program history, Matt MacPherson was
promoted to associate head coach (de-
fensive backs) in the offseason. MacPher-
son helped guide all-time leading rusher
Justin Jackson over the last four sea-
sons. A defensive standout at DePauw,
MacPherson was a defensive graduate
assistant for the 'Cats from 2000-02 be-
fore serving as the defensive coordinator
at Kenyon in 2003 and safeties coach at
Eastern Michigan under Jeff Genyk from
2004-05.
