Avery's trail-blazing mindset is also turning heads – Ski Area Management Magazine recently named her as one of the industry's top 10 up-and-coming leaders under the age of 30. George is looking forward to his 45 th season at Showdown, where pristine snowmaking conditions are the norm. "We get our snow from heaven – it's perfectly natural," he says. Not only does Showdown sit in a perfect geographical location for an abundance of dry, fluffy snow, it also receives a lile extra help from above. "It comes from the Big Guy," George says with a tone of appreciation. "He's the Head Snowmaker." e weather in surrounding communities is generally very different than what is happening on the mountain, so don't let warming temperatures deter you from checking out Showdown's website for the latest ski condition information this spring. "We have great snow prey consistently," Avery says proudly. e Showdown crew can always find a reason to celebrate winter, and they host a variety of fun-filled, family-friendly events throughout the season. Youth Ski League and the Showdown Shredders snowboarding classes kick off in January, providing kids with 34 hours of instruction over eight consecutive Saturdays. Group and private skiing lessons are also available. "We cater to local people, and we want you to leave with a smile on your face," George says. Although his family's devotion to continuing the family business has provided him with the opportunity to enjoy activities outside of work, don't expect him to venture too far. "I just don't know why you'd even want to get off the mountain," he says.
