at the ranch," Kosta said, emphasizing
their "diverse portfolio" of turf runners and
dirt runners, 2-year-olds and older horses,
breeding stock and sales purchases. "In
John Sadler we trust."
This trust will soon reap further rewards
when Accelerate begins stud duties at
Lane's End. The Hronises and Lane's End
are standing the colt "together" as part
of a syndicate, said Kosta (who declined
to provide percentages). And what Accel-
erate provides to breeders, he added, is a
positive example of what the industry los-
es when top-notchers are shuffled off to
the breeding shed all too prematurely. "I
think our sport really needs horses to stay
on the racetrack a little longer—I think it
helps with our fan base," he said. "It just
seems like we lose the horses so fast that
are the best. For a 5-year-old to stay on
the racetrack and to run the way he runs,
it's just wonderful for our sport. California
Chrome is another example."
And with yet another eye on the long-
term sustainability of the sport, Kosta re-
cently joined Del Mar's board of directors.
