By Jill Williams 88 TOM AMOSS Among the most consistent trainers in the business, the New Orleans native gives us "The Last Word." By Bill Finley Nine years ago, KOSTA AND PETE HRONIS bought their first horse after enjoying the sport from a box at Santa Anita for years. Even they could not possibly have envisioned the heights this game had in store for them in under a decade. Crowned racing's newest Eclipse Owners of the Year Jan. 24, the boys from Delano, Califor- nia, share their journey on these pages with Dan Ross. A world away from the agronomy of California's Central Valley is France's Deauville, a seaside resort known for horses, exquisite local cuisine, and…pizza. Yes, pizza. SANTA LUCIA, the worst-kept secret in Deauville, is out of the proverbial bag and it's, oh, so good. We also visit mainland China's touted new CONGHUA RACECOURSE, a training facility about three hours from Hong Kong. It blows all expectations completely out of the water. Back in California, a relatively new farm is doing things the right way and in a big way. If this is the first time you've heard of BARTON THOROUGHBREDS, chances are it won't be the last. Finally, veteran trainer TOM AMOSS, always a tour de force in consistency, discusses music, his fraternity days, and how to listen to horses. He gives us "The Last Word."
