TA: Not that I'm not a big fan of the Rolling Stones
and Bruce Springsteen, but, without a doubt the
answer is David Bowie. He was always ahead of his
time, always cutting edge. His music is enduring and
it has stood the test of time and, on top of all that, he
was a real cool cat. All of those things make him the
best. Springsteen's music has always meant a lot to
me, but I put Bowie ahead of him.
TA: The last person to get Al and I mixed up was
Carl Nafzger. It was last year and he was walking by
me at Churchill Downs and said, 'Hi, Al.' It's happened
enough times that I just play the role of Al Stall when
that happens.
TDN: You're a big music fan. So, who is the greatest
rock 'n roll performer of all time?
TDN: You and Al Stall, Jr. have a unique relationship.
You were childhood friends, are the same age, were
roommates at Louisiana State University (LSU), have
had similar careers–high percentage trainers who
train on the same circuits. Do people ever get
the two of you mixed up?
I am a lot better at predicting horses and
what they are going to become
than I am with people.
