Music in the Movie Series February 9, March 9 and April 20 at 8pm Golden State Theatre, Monterey N o matter how big flat-screen TVs for your home get, they'll never compare to the big screen at your local movie house. You'll never match the sound either. That's the idea behind the Golden State Theatre's "Music in the Movies Series," which features documentaries on legendar y musicians on a giant theater screen with an incredible sound system in a spacious the- ater. It kicks off February 9, with a film on the influ- ential Chicago blues musician Paul Butterfield, "Horn From The Hear t: The Paul Butterfield Story." The second one on March 9 features rock guitar god Jimi Hendrix in "Jimi Hendrix: Electric Church," performing at the massive 1970 Atlanta Pop Music Festival, which the Jimi Hendrix Exper- ience headlined. The third film on April 20 is one of the greatest music documentaries ever made, director Jonathan Demme's "Stop Making Sense," which captures the quirky exu- berance and explosive energy of the great New York rock band Talking Heads. Beverages and snacks will be available for purchase. Tickets are $19 for each film or a package of all three for $48. www.goldenstatetheatre.com Sandy Shore's Jazz Weekender Thursday, February 14 at 5pm and Sunday, February 15 at 3pm Quail Lodge, Carmel Valley V eteran radio personality, concert promoter and founder of smoothjazz.com Sandy Shore is at it again. Now in its 39th year, the annual bash brings back a num- ber of favorites sprinkled in with some new faces, including the Royal Society Jazz Orchestra, Holland & Coots Jazz Quintet, Bye Bye Blues Boys, Stephanie Trick & Paolo Alderighi, Blue Street Jazz Band, Titan Hot 7, Tom Rigney & Flambeau, Zydeco Flames, "Fast Eddie" Erickson, Yve Evans Trio and the Carl Sonny Leyland Trio.
