ML CERTIFICATION NEWS ICML EXPANDS into INDIA BY SUZY JAMIESON, ICML The International Council for Machinery Lubrication (ICML) celebrated another highly successful year in 2012, significantly expanding its presence in the Middle East by initiating exams in several countries in the region. Now as 2013 begins, the organization is pleased to announce its expansion into India, with the first exam sessions expected to be offered in Pune, Mumbai and Chennai in February. ICML would like to thank VAS Tribology Solutions for the sponsorship of these new exam venues. The organization is excited to bring certification exams to India and provide Indian practitioners the opportunity to test and certify their skills just as their global counterparts have done. Now in its 13th year, ICML is present in more than 75 countries, spanning all corners of the globe. It has more than 9,000 certified practitioners, with exams in eight different languages: English, Spanish, Portuguese, French, Italian, Korean, Japanese and Chinese. The organization is currently translating exams to German, Russian and Thai, with initial certification testing expected to be offered in these languages later in 2013. The council's activities encompass the individual, plant and industry-wide levels. ICML offers skills-based certification testing for individuals in the fields of machine condition monitoring, lubrication and oil analysis. Its purpose is to create a valid and recognized career path for individuals practicing the actual functions related to lubrication and analysis. The organization has also developed a set of credentials that are now recognized worldwide. Many companies around the globe now require ICML certification as a prerequisite for employment and career advancement. At an industry level, ICML runs advocacy programs educating industry regarding the criticality of lubrication and analysis professionals and their functions, as reflected in the corporate bottom line. The organization also works closely in the development and support of international standards pertinent to lubrication and oil analysis, including personnel skills development. ICML's programs have been pioneered into the first-ever ISO standards on qualification and assessment of oil analysts, both field and laboratory-based. To provide practitioners at the plant level with support and guidance, ICML has developed an awards program to encourage and recognize excellence in lubrication and oil analysis programs. ICML awards are open to enduser programs at plants worldwide at no cost to applicants and are independent of any involvement with the organization. The ICML awards criteria serve as a roadmap for world-class programs and identify examples to be followed in industry in the pursuit of excellence. Award recipients then serve as mentors for others starting on this same journey.
