State Ministries | CM 2018 25 OKLAHOMA T HIS YEAR, DR. CHEYNE DAY BECAME MINISTRY LEADER TO THE OKLAHOMA STATE LEGISLATURE AND MOVED US CLOSER TO ACHIEVING A 22-YEAR OBJECTIVE OF PLANT- ING FULL-TIME MINISTRIES IN EVERY STATE CAPITOL IN AMERICA. Pastor Day will assume the position full-time, replacing Dr. Doug Melton who, because of commitments as senior pastor at Southern Hills Baptist Church in Oklahoma City, was only able to serve part-time. Pastor Melton stepped down from the Ministry Leader position he held for five years to accept a po- sition with the Board of Trustees for the International Mission Board for the Southern Baptist Convention. Over the years Pastor Melton grew the Oklahoma legislative ministry from six attendees to more than 30. We are looking forward to ex- pansion and growth in Oklahoma as Pastor Day assumes the ministry full-time and builds upon the strong foundation that Pastor Melton spent years and much goodwill constructing. An Oklahoma native, Pastor Day is a talented and skilled ex- positor who served for many years as senior pastor at Keystone Hills Baptist Church in Sand Springs, OK. In joining Capitol Ministries®, Pastor Day is fulfilling a de- cades-long dream "is desire to minister to political leaders goes back to 1992 when I surrendered to ministry," he said. "I was shown the movie, 'A Man Called Peter,' which was about Peter Marshall who became chaplain to the U.S. Senate in the 1940s. at movie made such an impact on me. Over the years I thought that perhaps, in some way, the Lord might lead me to minister in the political arena." Named aer the great 19th-century Scottish Bible teacher and reformer Robert Murray M'Cheyne, Pastor Day is the son of the highly respected Oklahoma expositor Dr. R. Alan Day who served for more than 25 years as senior pastor at First Bap- tist Church in Edmond, OK, before he was killed in a motor- cycle accident in 2011 at the age of 63. Pastor Day said his first objective is to build on Pastor Melton's work and continue a Bible study rooted in and prop- erly exegeted from Scripture. "I wish to help these legislators grow in the grace and knowledge of our Savior Jesus Christ," he said. "at is the goal, and to help them grow in their faith. I have thought in my mind where this ministry could go per- haps, but my belief and understanding is that any success in God's eyes will be empowered by Him. I am His vessel to be empowered by the Holy Spirit, it is not by my power, but by God's Spirit, and I am oen reminded of that."
