RETAILOBSERVER.COM MARCH 2019 34 FIRST PLACE / MEDIUM KITCHEN continued from page 13 Vivid Vintage For this historical renovation, designer Sarah Robertson refreshed her own 1920s Craftsman kitchen while remain- ing true to its original charm. Major challenges included opening up space to surrounding rooms and bringing in natural light while minimizing bulky cabinetry. She placed outswing windows on three walls, allowing light to stream in all day. For even more light, the inoperable window above the range remains unobstructed by the high-CFM hood, which is installed flush with the ceiling. Counter-to-ceiling cabinets on either side of the sink add functionality to the room's corners, while floating walnut shelves elsewhere reduce bulk and match the island. Other storage features, such as a dedicated tea drawer, a toe- kick cat food drawer, and in-drawer outlets, make cabinet space specialized and functional. Finally, vintage-look brass and black finishes tie the room together, from the window frames and custom appliance finishes to the light fixtures and hardware. —Amanda Hermans Sarah Robertson Studio Dearborn, Mamaroneck, NY Photography: Adam Kane Macchia of Macchia Photo Cabinets: Schrocks of Walnut Creek; countertops: granite; dishwasher: Asko Appliances; faucets/fittings: Watermark and Newport Brass; garbage disposal: InSinkErator; lighting: Molly O'Shea Ryan; microwave oven: GE; range: Thermador; refrigerator: Sub-Zero; sinks: Vigo; tile: AKDO; ventilation: Futuro Futuro; water delivery system: Pure Waters; windows: Lepage BEST KITCHEN
