FIRST PLACE / SMALL KITCHEN
Well-Tailored Fit
After a flood damaged his condo, the
owner called on Martin de Sousa to
replace the generic builder kitchen
with a more up-to-date iteration. His
list of requests included full-height
storage, additional seating in the bay
window, and a materials palette to
coordinate with his existing décor.
De Sousa maximized storage in the
relatively small kitchen with ceiling-
height custom cabinets, employing
two contrasting door styles—white
flat-panel and a wood-grain slab—
and different cabinetry depths to
help break down the visual scale of
the space.
The kitchen features special design
details that include push-to-open
drawers below the built-in bench
seating, and a Caesarstone slab
backsplash and 1-inch Caesarstone
countertop with a waterfall edge.
Black handles, fixtures, and faucets
add a contemporary flavor to the
space. —Nigel F. Maynard
