FIRST PLACE / LARGE BUDGET-FRIENDLY KITCHEN
Walnut Welcome
Designer Dvira Ovadia made this bud-
get renovation a success by mixing and
matching high- and low-cost finishes.
To warm up the contemporary white
cabinetry that dominates the space,
Ovadia strategically added walnut
accents, including the top drawer of the
base cabinets and the refrigerator
panels. A custom walnut hood became
the room's focal point.
To mitigate the cost of the walnut, the
cabinet interiors are constructed from
standard melamine. Ovadia splurged
on natural marble with gray veining for
the island but stuck with manufactured
white Caesarstone countertops around
the room's perimeter. Cooking appli-
ances were prioritized, while other
devices were found at clearance prices.
The designer hid an unsightly bulkhead
behind faux cabinet fronts and split the
height of the walls with stacked upper
cabinets beneath a contemporary crown.
