turned out to be another eye-opening ex-
perience for Reeves.
"We were the 4-5 favorite for the [GIII]
Holy Bull," said Reeves. "I already wrote out
my win speech and I had it in my coat pock-
et. We go to the race and I check out where
the winner's circle was, the whole deal.
He ends up finishing fourth. It was a very
humbling experience. We both decided from
then on, nothing is a gimme in this thing."
Team Mucho Macho Man regrouped
and went to Fair Grounds, where they won
the GII Risen Star S. "We were thrilled,"
Reeves reminisced. "What an event that
was. From winning that, we jumped up to
number seven, so we knew we would get
into the Kentucky Derby. We sure partied
that night in New Orleans. We went back
down there and ran in the [GII] Louisiana
Derby. He threw a shoe, but still finished
third. Shortly after that, we shipped on to
Kentucky."
Mucho Macho Man went on to finish
third behind Animal Kingdom in the 2011
Run for the Roses and ran in both the GI
Preakness S. and GI Belmont S.
"The several weeks of being a part of the
Derby was unforgettable," Reeves said. "It
was pretty special. After the race, you are
disappointed that you didn't win, but then
you think about it and out of 20 horses, you
were in the money in the Kentucky Derby
