The Reeveses dabble in more than
Mucho Macho Man offspring. They keep
a pretty diverse stable of about 30 and
acquire horses in a variety of ways.
"Everybody says you ought to have a plan
and I don't have a plan," said Reeves in his
Georgia accent. "We look to try and buy
horses off the track and we also go to the
sales and buy 2-year-olds and yearlings.
Some we buy on our own and some are
in partnerships. We will go up to Keene-
land and I never know if we will buy one
horse or three horses. I also like to look at
2-year-old sales. I think you need to hit a
lot of the different sales. Kathy [Ritvo] and
Jay Stone help us out and this year Jimmy
and Martha Gladwell will help look at hors-
es. There are so many horses, you need
enough people to get around and make
shortlists."
The Reeveses even privately purchased
a horse from Chile and imported a filly
from France to run in the 2016 Breeders'
Cup. They have partnered with Randy Hill
of R.A. Hill Stable on several horses, in-
cluding buying into a horse claimed by
Danny Gargan named Tax, who won the
GIII Withers S. at Aqueduct Feb. 2, earning
Derby points in the process.
The couple were also in the first group of
owners to buy a spot in the starting gate
for the inaugural GI Pegasus World Cup in
