Save time and trees with eStatements. Getting started is easy, and they're highly secure and simple to use. Best of all, they're free! Check out redwoodcu.org/ estatements to learn how to get set up. Your identity is in the mail It turns out your greatest exposure for identity theft is at your mailbox. A study of Secret Service cases that included components of identity theft and identity fraud showed the top two methods of identity theft were re-routing of mail and mail theft. When you weigh it all out, you're better oˆ with electronically delivered statements than a paper copy that could end up in the wrong hands. Paper statements can be stolen, and they have to be stored securely. When you want to get rid of them, you have to shred or destroy them, and that's a lot of paper in the landfill. On the other hand, eStatements are password protected and can't be seen by anyone who doesn't have access to your accounts. When you want to view your statement, just log in to RCU online banking. eStatements can be archived for up to two years, and – the best part – they're digital. When you don't need them anymore, there's no shredding and no landfill, so they're better for the environment, too! eStatements: Safer than paper statements It may feel like cyberthieves are everywhere these days, lurking the internet and looking to steal your identity. With cybertheft on everyone's mind, it's not hard to see why you might hesitate before you sign up for eStatements. Aren't paper statements safer? Actually, no.
