Melissa comes to BICSI from The Geological Society of America (GSA), where she was the Senior Director of Meetings & Events since 2008. GSA has a budget of $11 million, 55 employees and 25,000 members in 118 countries. Melissa joined GSA in 1999 and was promoted multiple times in roles of increasing responsibility. As the leader of the meetings and events department, she was responsible for the management and execution of all aspects of GSA's global meetings portfolio, ranging from 30 to 7,000-plus attendees. This included responsibility for all contracts, ensuring legal compliance, and ultimately overseeing the work of seven team members, two of which were globally based. Melissa also has produced large and complex joint meetings between GSA and related societies where GSA took the lead—the largest being a trade show that had a budget of more than $4 million, approximately 10,000 attendees and 300 exhibitors. Melissa holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Speech Communication from the University of Southern Colorado. She is an Events Industry Council (EIC) Certified Meeting Professional (CMP), an accreditation she first earned in 2004. We witnessed Melissa's talent and expertise firsthand prior to and during the 2019 BICSI Winter Conference & Exhibition. We are very proud to have her on the BICSI team.
