GLOBAL RESPECT. CAREER ADVANCEMENT. What's in a BICSI credential? Take the steps to earn a BICSI credential. bicsi.org/credentialing INSTC BICSI G2.2-2019 Last year BICSI G1 was released as the first of numerous standards specific to OSP ICT construction and installation. Throughout the year some thought BICSI Standards had finally met their match in creating the next in the series, but it turns out that OSP expertise was (and still is) in demand during Construction Season with volunteer time being scarce. Given the onset of winter in most parts, the contents of BICSI G2.2, ICT Outside Plant Construction and Installation: Aerial Cable Installation were formally approved at the 2019 BICSI Winter Conference & Exhibition. While a public release date has not been scheduled, this 100-plus- page standard covers placing messenger strand and subsequent lashing of the cable. For those with a preference toward self-support- ing cables, such as Figure 8 or ADSS, these are covered as well. One of the other interesting features of this standard is its approximately 150 figures, making it the most figure-intensive standard at BICSI to date. Some have noted that G2.2 seems to be an odd designation. However, in development is both G2, an overview of aerial plant installation and G2.1, which focuses on the installation of poles and their accompanying guys. While these are already in progress and in approval, if the return of Construction Season is as predicted, it may be early winter before these become fully available. 'Til next time Jeff Silveira, RITP, CAE, AStd BICSI Director of Standards (continued from page 26)
