Nicknamed Skip the Slip, this
proposed bill in California
would require restaurants
(and all retail businesses) as of
2022 to provide guests with
an electronic receipt instead
of a printed one, unless asked
for one. Hoping to aid the
environment and lessen
people's exposure to chemical
compounds commonly used as
water-resistant coatings for 93
percent of receipts, electronic
receipts would annually
deflect 686 million pounds
of solid waste from landfills,
save 21 billion gallons of water,
and spare 10 million trees.
Businesses who disregard the
law will incur a fine.
