Montana as well as a welcoming to those who are there
for treatment. They were created to educate as well as
entertain people during what could be a very difficult
part of their life, says Fercho.
Known for her thick, impasto-style oil paintings, Fercho
has been seen wearing gloves and using her hands
to apply paint. Roughly 90% of her paintings are done
with palette knives and 10% with natural hog's hair
brushes. "I don't cut my paints at all, so it takes a while
to dry them, but this type of paint will last well beyond
my great-grandchildren," she says, "A good part of the
image you see is your eye putting together textures and
psychologically linking them in your brain to see shapes."
Over 70% of Fercho's works are commissioned pieces
where her clients choose the palette, size, and subject
matter. While some artists might think this stifles creativity,
Fercho finds it stimulating. "I enjoy the energy from doing
a piece specific to my clients: their personality, their
home, their vision. I've always said my gallery pieces are
little Trojan Horses people bring into their home but it's
really my commissioned works that are my best works."
2019 marks Fercho's tenth consecutive year
contributing a painting in the CM Russell Museum's
(The Russell) live auction. Watch for her painting
entitled "Prayer" when you go!
During her show, she will be offering her handmade silk
scarves for $95 (regularly $195) and her little paintings at
half price, until they are gone.
