Jay Contway & Friends Show
Where Relationships Blossom and Talent Ignites
O
By Ellie Stone
ffering an art show for nearly 35 years during Western Art Week is
no small task for world famous American Western sculptor, Jay Contway
and his wife of 22 years, Lynn Contway. Lynn says, "As always, this year's
show promises to be an exceptional exhibition of high caliber artists.
Jay Contway, a consistent standout at the Russell Art Auction, is most
renowned for his energetic bronze sculptures of cowboys and horses –
work that offers a testament to the superb quality of art likely to be found
at his show. Contway takes pride in hand-picking each artist, looking for
work that demonstrates a mastery of skill, material, or technique as well
as a similar passion for the medium each creates. "To keep things fresh,
Jay looks for an eclectic group of people who offer something that is
certainly Western art, but different, out of the ordinary," says Lynn.
Since 1985, artists from Canada all the way down the coast to Mexico
have been gathering for this show. They host their own exhibits for the
entire show, allowing art collectors and interested visitors the opportunity
to meet with and learn about individual talents.
This year, 14 friends are joining Jay at the Hilton Garden Inn and as
always, each bring a unique element to Western Art Week with their
original approaches to art from the polished strokes of Beth Enloe's
