Scott, Colby, and Robin are the core team of outriders for Keeneland, but during the hectic race meets, they are joined by Dale Mallory, who they all easily admit has the most popularly named horse: Ricky Bobby. And yes, he likes to go fast, or at least now he does. "I bought him about five years ago," said Mallory. "He was a racehorse, but not a very good one. We have been through ups and downs, but he is a good horse. His ac- tual name is A Mans Man. We call him Ricky Bobby be- cause he's by Richter Scale. We called him Ricky at first, and then it became Ricky Bobby, and it just stuck." A claiming horse, A Mans Man turned Ricky Bobby ran eight times and earned $7,021. Although the bay gelding broke his maiden at Mountaineer Park in March 2011 in his second start, it would be the only time he hit the board in the entirety of his career. "He's pretty fast, but maybe he just didn't want to run," said Mallory. "He likes his job now, most of the time. Ricky is a pretty good boy. He wasn't very good when I got him, but he is now. He needed time." While Ricky Bobby might be the horse Mallory gets asked about the most, he also uses another less fa- mous but talented horse named Drew, who, as it turns out, is related to Slinger. DALE MALLORY – RICKY BOBBY AND DREW "GOOD PONIES WILL KNOW WHAT IS HAPPENING BEFORE YOU EVER DO. THEY HAVE A SIXTH SENSE ABOUT THEM."
