MAY 2019 RETAILOBSERVER.COM 11 Sculptural Elegance As part of the whole-house renovation of a traditional two-story home, the client wanted the master bath and closet suite to provide a luxurious retreat with dramatic flair, while also continuing the natural flow of interior space. To that end, designer Sandra Diaz-Velasco created a wood-paneled entrance to connect the master suite with the rest of the home. By managing aspects of volume, geometry, and light, Diaz-Velasco was able to both improve the layout and amplify the mood. The space adeptly melds elegance and function, with clean lines and chic natural materials, such as gray marble and onyx walls and stone flooring. Creative manipulation of ceiling volumes enhances the sense of vertical space, while elegant yet playful light fixtures add whimsy. Along with the whirlpool spa and bathtub, the custom shower enclosure is integrated into an open area to make the master bath feel more spacious. But it's the sculptural form of the freestanding Juliet tub from MTI that's the centerpiece, drawing guests into the room. —Kate Carsella Sandra Diaz-Velasco, RA, AIA, ASID EOLO Design, EOLO A&I Design, Miami Photography: Eugenio Wilman, Emotion Works Tub/whirlpool: MTI; cabinetry: custom; faucets/fittings: Graff; flooring: Naturali Stone; lighting: Axo Light, Hudson Valley Lighting; shower enclosure: custom; sinks: Alape; spa/hot tub/sauna: Duravit, Jacuzzi; tile: Porcelanosa; toilet: Kohler; walls/ceiling: Naturali Stone BEST BATH
