FIRST PLACE / SMALL BATH

Rustic Renovation
This bathroom was located at the end
of a main hallway and visible from the
entry, so it had to make a bold
statement. It also had to meet the
client's desire for a rustic aesthetic.
To that end, Lora Weaver specified a
custom alder vanity with an espresso
stain glazed in black to highlight the
knots of the wood. A Fantasy Brown
marble countertop combined with a
champagne bronze trough faucet and a
white fireclay farmhouse sink further
the look. Antiqued cabinet hardware
dresses the vanity and complements
the nautically inspired rivet-detail mirror
and two-tone bronze and matte black
light fixture. The floor is heated lava-
stone tile.
To make the bathroom feel as large as
possible, the designer chose a
frameless glass shower enclosure.
Bronze plumbing fixtures brighten the
shower side of the room and visually
pop against the dark gray ceramic wall
tile. LEDs under the cabinet provide
night lighting. —Nigel F. Maynard
