Golf Histor y Comes Alive at Pebble Beach Shop B Y R E N E E B R I N C K S W hen the 2019 U.S. Open Champion- ship stops in Pebble Beach this June, spectators searching for keepsakes will find something exceptionally rare at Golf Links to the Past. At press time, the Pebble Beach shop was holding a collection of 49 autographed golf balls signed by U.S. Open Champions dating back to 1922. It's one highlight in a selection that includes an 1848 watercolor by famed golf artist Charles Lees, decanters from several Bing Crosby National Pro-Am tournaments, and other mem- orabilia ranging from photographs to Masters flags to Arnold Palmer's PGA Tour clubs. "It's a set of irons that he used in the 1960 and 1961 seasons, when he won three majors and 11 other tournaments," says Steve Juskewycz, who purchased Golf Links to the Past in 2005. To curate offerings, his staffers attend auctions, cor- respond with collectors and maintain licensing agreements with top players and the estates of legends like Bobby Jones and Gene Sarazen. General Manager Kip Opgrand joined the team just after the 2000 U.S. Open in Pebble Beach. "What hasn't changed since then is the romance that we bring to the game. You can't duplicate the antiquities and old trophies," says. "The store has the feel of a great museum, but with price tags."
