Fiona lays two eggs in a nest near the other Fiordland Penguin families.
They try to find places together that are rocky and hard to get to
to keep other animals away.
Penguins are birds but a long time ago their wings evolved into flippers
for swimming instead of flying, so now they can't fly away
from danger. Rocks provide safety.
PENGUIN
PARENTING
Finn and Fiona the Fiordland Penguins decide it's
time to make a family and lay some eggs.
It's a cold winter on
New Zealand's South Island,
which might seem like a crazy
time to be hatching a new
penguin, but that's the way
they do it around these parts.
