July/August/September 2019 I 61 and infrastructure costs. Care must be taken to deploy this solution safely with the utmost precautions emphasized around industry best practices. CONCLUSION Not long ago, rack PDUs were mainly basic power strips distributing power to the different equipment in the cabinet. In the past few years, rack PDUs not only distribute power, but are rapidly evolving with embedded and connected IoT devices. The intelligent rack PDU is becoming the IoT device aggregation point and also control point for infrastructure management. The PDU segment is expected to register a CAGR of around 7.0 percent from 2019 to 2025. The global data center rack PDU market is expected to reach USD 2.04 billion by 2025. The growth is mainly driven by the snowballing demand for intelligent PDUs. Over the last few years, companies have shifted toward the adoption of intelligent PDUs against simple multi socket racks with server and network equipment. 12 Intelligent rack PDUs enable the management and monitoring of power in addition to monitoring environmental and security conditions. Through the installation of intelligent rack PDUs, data center managers are able to collect insight data and actionable intelligence that could be used for positivity impacting the business outcome. In addition to intelligence, the rack PDU is evolving to provide a lot more power directly to the rack. This not only meets the continuously growing demand for having more equipment in the cabinet with more power-hungry high computing equipment, but also optimizes the power distribution and reduces energy costs.
