hen I pull up to the Mannix Brothers Ranch, homesteaded in
1882, near Helmville, Montana, Randy Mannix greets me and walks
me to the pens where his brother David and sister-in-law Stacey are
moving the beeves through the shoot for vaccination and deworming.
Another woman, Kate Clya, confidently moves back and forth
along the plank with a vaccination gun, vaccinating each beef
and helping prod them into the catch where David will administer
the dewormer. Kate is the Mannix's 28-year-old apprentice.
Second year Quivira ranching apprentice Kate Clyatt takes a
moment to relax after helping vaccinate beeves on the Mannix
Brother's Ranch near Helmville, Montana in the Blackfoot
River Valley. The Mannix Ranch raises cow calf pairs, their
own stockers, and grass-finished beef.
