Car s and Coffee Draws a Fresh Crowd to Laguna Seca B Y R E N E E B R I N C K S B etween the thrill of headlining annu- al events, car enthusiasts assemble at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca for a more low-key celebration of speed. Bimonthly Monterey Cars and Coffee gath- erings draw more than 400 people to the track for vehicle displays and casual conversation fueled by free brews from Castle Rock Coffee & Mercantile. "It's not a formal car show," emphasiz- es Tim McGrane, chief executive officer at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca. "Whatever your interest, as quirky or as spectacular as it might be, this is just about embracing that car culture and camaraderie." Attendees at a typical event often find vintage MGs and Jaguars parked next to Porsches, rare supercars and 4x4 Ford Broncos. Spectators also enjoy an up-close look at track operations and special events. Cars and Coffee builds new buzz about WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca, as well. "It's the first time at the track for some, and others haven't visited in decades," says McGrane. "Often, people have heard about the County's improvements here and now they can see it for themselves. It gets people excited about what's happening at the track." A special Monterey Cars and Coffee is planned for August 14, in conjunction with 2019 Monterey Pre-Reunion events. Regular bi-monthly gatherings continue on September 7.
