n San Miguel Canyon Road in Prunedale,
near Highway 101, Nick Olson wel-
comes diners to 101 Wine Press. In the kitchen,
his brother, Parker, crafts spicy rubs for the
smoked meats on the barbecue-focused menu.
Their mother, Patty, stops by when she's not at
her Carmel studio, O Salon; Kevin, their father,
swings in between stops at his produce business
and the family's nearby vineyard.
The Olsons opened 101 Wine Press in
February, creating a casual restaurant with a
local focus. Kevin Olson Vineyard wines. Beers

"It's just a fun hangout where people can
sample local wine and beer, grab a bite and
watch a game. We appeal to many types of
customers," Nick says.
The family considered opening a traditional
tasting room on the Monterey Peninsula, but
ultimately opted to stay close to home.
"This area has been overlooked for a long
time, and we relish the chance to create a local-
ly focused destination right here in Prunedale.
Our own vineyard is only a mile and a half away.
It's something we're really proud of," says Nick.
