hen a company has been in business
as long as the San Carlos Agency, it's
a sure bet they're doing something right. Or
everything right.
The Carmel real estate management and
sales firm was founded in 1954 by Jack and
Ione Miller as San Carlos-Fifth Avenue Realty.
Last year, the Millers' grandchildren Jack Britton,
his sister Lori Britton Pfeiffer and her husband
James Pfeiffer took the reins, marking the fourth
generation of family leadership.
Both Jack and his grandfather were involved
in professional baseball before turning to real
estate: Miller as a player who shared diamonds
with the likes of Jackie Robinson and Duke
Snider, and Britton working with the San
Francisco Giants and in the marketing division of
Major League Baseball in New York. His broth-
er-in-law James was a Navy F-18 pilot before
joining the family firm. All three are Monterey
Peninsula natives.
"They each bring different experience,
knowledge and personality to the company, but
they make a great team," says Lori. "They are
dedicated to doing what the prior generations
have done—providing great service and staying
true to the core company values of honesty
and integrity while adapting to the changing
landscape of the industry."
