The Pacific Grove Rotary Concours Auto Rally celebrates 25 years on August 16th, and features Cobra, along with 200+ other classic and sports cars. 90 C A R M E L M A G A Z I N E • S U M M E R / F A L L 2 0 1 9 A s Pacific Grove Rotary Concours Auto Rally organizers outlined silver anniver- sary celebrations earlier this year, they looked to the inaugural 1995 gathering for inspiration. The annual car show and coastal cruise first highlighted Cobra as its featured marque, and car designer Carroll Shelby attended the festivi- ties on Lighthouse Avenue. The 25th anniversary event on August 16 again spotlights Cobra, and will feature more than 200 classic and sports cars of all kinds. After lining up for a downtown display from noon to 4:30pm, participating drivers trace a coastal route through Pacific Grove, along the 17-Mile Drive and back to Chautauqua Hall for a barbecue and awards dinner. Participants, including many repeat exhibitors, hail from as far as Oregon, Texas and New Hampshire. "It's the excitement of meeting your friends, swapping car stories and taking a drive through Pebble Beach," says David Laws, an event co-organizer and member of the Pacific Grove Rotary Club. Festivities are free for spectators, while driver registration fees support youth programs and community projects supported by Rotary. "Funds are put into a pot of money that we dispense to local charities over the year," Laws says. "The money benefits a host of people in our town who need the help."
