Golden State Theatre Debuts "Selfieville" B Y M I C H A E L C H AT F I E L D T he Golden State Theatre has been a hub of Monterey's cultural scene since 1926, first as a movie house and most recently as a concert hall. Now, owner (with husband Eric) Lori Lochtefeld has transformed an upper floor of the venerable venue into "Selfieville," a totally 21st-century entertainment experience. "I wanted to create something that the whole family would enjoy," Lochtefeld says. A visit to Selfieville begins with an eye-pop- ping custom-designed, fantasmagorical 20-min- ute light show that projects a dizzying spectacle on the theater's proscenium. The presentation begins with historical information on the theatre before going into a delightful fantasy. Attendees then are escorted to a series of themed rooms that contain whimsical scenes and large sculp- tures that invite selfie-taking. The entire expe- rience is a riot of color that dazzles the eyes. Up to 85 attendees can be accommodated per show. When you go to Selfieville, you're also help- ing to helping to improve the lives of foster chil- dren. That's because Lochtefeld is donating 25 percent of net profits to organizations such as Monterey County's Kinship Center and Pivotal in Silicon Valley. Selfieville is located at 417 Alvarado Street in Monterey and is open Thursday-Sunday except on concert days. Visit selfieville.com for more informa- tion and tickets.
