Finnegan
J
ust a few months old, this cute-as-can-be Cavalier King Charles Spaniel
has already demonstrated that he is a major asset to Nancy Dodds at
her eponymously named Carmel gallery. "People come in to see him and
they end up buying something," Dodds says. "He's sold a few paintings
so far." Finnegan is the fourth dog to take up residence at Nancy Dodds
Gallery and most of his predecessors were Cavaliers. "They were all
just the best dogs," Dodds says. "But Finnegan is a born art salesman."
Louie
I
t's easy to find Robin Winfield's Carmel
studio and gallery. Just look for tiny Louie,
lying on the walkway outside her door.
"Louie loves to plop himself down there and
soak up the sun," the artist says. And that's
good for business: passersby stop to say
hello to this adorable mixed breed (Winfield
thinks he's a blend of Mini Pin, Chihuahua and
maybe Rat Terrier), then enter the gallery to
check out his owner's works. Like any good
businessman, Louie loves going to the bank,
but he doesn't make deposits. "He likes the
treats they have there," Winfield says.
"All his life he tried to be a good person.
Many times, however, he failed. For after
all, he was only human. He wasn't a dog."
