hough Emery Giskaas might agree with
Picasso's age-old idea of rolling up your sleeves
and geing to work, his source of inspiration is
clearly 21st century. He finds ideas on Pinterest.
ese ideas have helped shape the architecture,
technology, and artful design of his 17-acre Great
Falls home and farm.
"I got lucky when I found this property," Giskaas
says. He and wife Dawn, a manager for Studio
Montage, sold their Riverview home 10 years ago,
started working the new land, and headed south.
ey first created a deck and pergola in the
valley below where their house now stands. An
adjacent outhouse appears rustic, though includes
tile flooring and its own composting system.
Other structures, likewise, blend modern and
traditional elements.
Landscaping around the house and garage
guides the visitor past stands of evergreens and on
pathways flanked by purple pansies. A high berm
keeps snow from piling up in the driveway.

Most of the Giskaas chickens come from My Pet
Chicken and are "extremely docile," says Emery.
Emery shows the variations in eggs laid by
different breeds.
