GLOBAL Page 15 Pre-Event Masterclass The evening before the event, CALA District Chair Betty Bezos, RCDD, DCDC, ESS, NTS, OSP, PE, delivered a Masterclass at INICTEL-UNI titled, "Building Intelligent Cities by Utilizing Intelligent Infrastructure." INICTEL-UNI has a long-standing relationship with BICSI, including a partnership via an MOU and becoming an ADTP as of 2018. In addition, INICTEL-UNI also co-organized the BICSI Day event. Betty's Masterclass had an attendance of 50, and all were eager to ask questions and learn more even when the presentation was finished. BICSI Day Agenda The Opening Ceremony began with Peru Country Secretary Rosalia L. Zarate and Peru Country Chair Cristian Reyes welcoming the delegates and opening the event, followed by Betty Bezos giving the BICSI overview. A special presentation followed by guest speaker Francisco Madrid Cisneros of The National Institute of Quality (Instituto Nacional de Calidad – INACAL). Francisco discussed the impact of standards in the Peruvian Govern- ment. INACAL is a Specialized Public Technical Agency, attached to the Ministry of Production, with legal status under public law, and admin- istrative, functional, technical, economic and financial autonomy. Throughout the event, presentations focused on the theme of the day, which was "Connect- ing the World to the Future of Technology." This included topics such as the past, present and future of cabling solutions; intelligent and effi- cient buildings and infrastructure; the Internet of Things; the next generation of PoE; and the impact of digital buildings and data in our lives. A break for lunch gave delegates the oppor- tunity to explore the exhibits and learn about their latest innovations. The day culminated in a lively panel discussion titled, "What Lies in the Future for Data Centers" and was moderated by Cristian Reyes. Panelists included Jorge Francesqui Echegaray, DCDC, CT, of Integrity; Jorge Sakata Huayaney of BCP; Francisco Madrid Cisneros of INACAL; and Jorge Reynaldo Cueva Nolberto of Colegio de Ingenieros. Following the panel came the closing remarks, where BICSI and co-organizer INICTEL-UNI generously presented a $500 schol- arship on behalf of BICSI to Erwin Daniel Lopez Zapata. More Peru Events to Come Both delegates and exhibitors were thrilled with the event and are looking forward to more events in the CALA District. Volunteers and staff are already considering dates for the next Peru event, which is tentatively scheduled for 20 August 2020. Thank you to everyone who worked hard to make this event a reality! BICSI DAY PERU RECAP BICSI CALA's 4th BICSI Day Peru on 22 August surpassed all expectations and secured its place as the best Peru BICSI event ever. Held at a new location, the Sonesta Hotel El Olivar in Lima, Peru, the day saw 401 in attendance and a sold-out exhibit floor with 16 exhibiting companies—that's an increase of 216 percent attendees over last year's event!
