McGowan, the changeup out of the backfield, now spends some 30 percent of his practice time
with that group and the rest back with the wide outs.
"I played a little bit of running back in high school, so it's not foreign to me," he says of his latest
role. "But the speed of the game from the backfield is obviously a lot different. I'm seeing a different
set of guys. I'm seeing defensive linemen, I'm seeing linebackers rather than just seeing corners
and safeties. Stuff's coming at me a lot quicker, and from different angles. I'm having to pick up
stuff from different angles. It's not too hard to do. It's an adjustment I think I'm handing real well right
now. I'm just ready to do whatever I need to do for the team."
The final word here shall go to McGowan, who says this when asked how the 1-5 'Cats are fighting
off negativity and staying positive as they enter the second half of their season:
"I think you find the wins within the losses. Overall, you took a loss. But I feel there are little wins
within each loss. You take those, you remember those, you take those with you once you leave the
loss behind to stay together, trust yourself, trust your teammates, trust the process. There's always
something you can take from it."
